About

I’m Dylan Jacob, an avid problem-solver and lifelong learner who loves diving into the intricacies of technology. My hobby is collecting hobbies, of which I have a plethora. Of those interests that I have, the most notable ones would be family, music, technology, and whenever possible, all three at the same time. My wife, Nicole, and I have a home recording studio where I get to combine these in creative and beautiful ways.

My family has a saying: "it was a Jacob job", meaning I made something harder than it had to be, such as having to go to the hardware store no less than 3 times, and still forgetting something I needed to finish the project. From this, I have developed a personal motto of "I can make anything difficult". This is sometimes an admission given in retrospect, and other times it's a challenge before I even get started. You need a website set up? I'll bet I can make it difficult by using some obscure blogging platform with a customized theme. Something that should probably have taken 2-3 hours has now taken 2-3 weeks.

This blog is a collection of articles that serve as a personal reference for me, but I hope they will also be useful to others. If I find myself frequently looking up certain topics, chances are others do too. Here, you’ll find solutions to various technical challenges, often discovered through a process of trial and error. Hopefully, I'll be able to save you (or myself) time as well as offerring you the lessons I learned from the process.

Problem-solving is not always straightforward. I tend to take the long way around to find the right solution only to find that there was a much more direct path in hindsight. However, this journey often leads to unique insights and creative solutions which I attempt to document here. Whether it’s configuring servers, or just documenting some tricky syntax, I aim to provide detailed, step-by-step guides that can help others navigate similar challenges.

The articles on this blog cover a wide range of topics, from programming languages and home automation to system administration and cybersecurity. Each post is written with the intention of being a comprehensive resource, complete with code snippets, diagrams, and practical examples to complement my, sometimes sarcastic, commentary. My goal is to make complex concepts more accessible and to share the knowledge I’ve gained through my experiences.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you find the content here helpful and informative. Happy reading and happy coding!
